COOLSCULPTING DOES NOT WORK!

Article by Dr. Pierre Michaud

More then once I have heard that CoolSculpting does not work. Why?
Obviously, I am convinced that it works very well. After all it is the #1 non surgical fat reducing procedure.

As recommended in Prevention Magazine in March, patients seeking CoolSculpting should be evaluated in the office of a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon; unfortunately, many patients are not properly evaluated and then do not receive appropriate treatment. It then becomes a waste of money and is disappointing- patients need to seek appropriate help.

Like any procedure or treatment in Plastic Surgery, patients have to be appropriate candidates. CoolSculpting only affects fat. The number of fat cells in our bodies typically becomes a fixed number sometime in our teenage years. Losing or gaining weight generally does not increase or decrease the number of fat cells. Instead, it changes the size of fat cells.

The CoolSculpting procedure actually reduces the number of fat cells in the treated areas by 25%. CoolSculpting is not for weight loss; it is indicated for diet and exercise resistant bulges.

If a patient has a child and has loose skin and lax abdominal muscles as a result of pregnancy, CoolSculpting will not correct those concerns; an abdominoplasty would be a more appropriate procedure.

While some areas can be corrected with one treatment, some bulges will need more than one treatment to get to the desired result. While some patients may see results as early as 3 weeks after their first treatment, the most dramatic results are usually seen between 1 and 3 months following treatment.

CoolSculpting works very well. There is no down time and results we see are great.  The photos show real results for our patients.

Physical Sunscreen

This dreary cold spring in RI has made our staff and patients long for sun and warm weather… BUT approximately 80% of our skin’s visible signs of aging are caused from overexposure to the sun’s rays.

Physical or mineral (over chemical*) sunscreens are highly recommended for many reasons.

These UVA and UVB ray and heat deflectors contain titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide…but on the skin they don’t have to look like a lifeguard’s white chalky stick! Now, most are formulated to appear translucent and still protect skin from penetrating rays that worsen sunspots, rosacea and melasma that can often re-appear in the summer months. However, physical protection can tend to wear off more easily than chemical sunscreen with rubbing or perspiration. An effortless way to re-apply often and as needed is with Colorescience’s Sunforgettable Brush-On SPF 50. This sunscreen in powder form can be worn alone or right over your makeup.

Healthy Living Kitchen Tip #3

   En Papillote

The French term for dinner in a bag!
This cooking style keeps proteins incredibly moist through its steaming process and allows herbs, citrus juices, and savory sauces to really soak into the ingredients. You just wrap the ingredients up in a pretty parchment paper pouch and let them bake until it puffs up!
Chicken, seafood and shellfish work amazingly for these packs, and we always recommend throwing tons of fresh vegetables and seasonings to make it a hearty and healthy meal. Impressive enough for a special occasion and easy clean up make this a springtime favorite!

Cheers to healthy living!
